Description
A small bud vase in the shape of an old Aburatsubo (oil jar). Age and maker unknown. Light brown glaze with iron decoration of leaves, reminiscent of Karatsu ware, but unsure of the actual origins. Unglazed foot. Undetermined kiln/maker's stamp on the outside of the footring. H. 2.5"(6.5cm) x Dia. 3.5"(9cm). Weight 179 grams.
Aburatsubo were small jars that stored the camellia oil used by Japanese women for centuries for lustrous hair and for moisturizing skin. Cold-pressed camellia seed oil is still sold today in Japan.
