Description

Houjicha Powder, 100 grams, Naturally grown with no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Unlike our leaf teas, the Houjicha Powder comes in a kraft paper/foil lined, resealable, zippered, stand-up pouch, measuring 7.75"(19.75cm) x 4.625"(11.75cm). Made from a blend of Houjicha (Roasted Green Tea) from Kagoshima and Miyazaki Prefectures that were medium roasted and fine milled for a smooth roasted flavor well-suited for making Houjicha Lattes, Houjicha Ice Cream, Houjicha Rare Cheesecakes, or for baking. Houjicha Powder can be used as a substitute for Matcha, Coffee, or even Cocoa in most beverage and baking recipes. If desired, it also goes well with a variety of sweeteners, such as maple syrup, honey, or agave, but my absolute favorite is Kuromitsu (Okinawan Black Sugar Syrup). Have fun experimenting with Houjicha Powder in your favorite cafe drink or dessert!

Here's my standard recipe for an 8oz (240 ml) Houjicha Latte:

  1. Mix 1 teaspoon Houjicha Powder into 2 oz (60 ml) hot water. Stir to dissolve the powder. This can be done with a spoon, a bamboo whisk (chasen for making matcha), or an electric milk frother.
  2. Heat  6 oz (180 ml) of your favorite milk (dairy, oat, soy, almond, etc.) and whisk/froth to a foamy consistency, not too airy, but like thick paint.
  3. Combine the milk and Houjicha, mixing well to remove air.
  4. Top with a bit of Kuromitsu (Okinawan Black Sugar Syrup). Enjoy!
