Description

Kazuho Matcha Chasen, White Bamboo Tea Whisk, 58 tines (Araho). Japanese-made by Yamamoto Takezaiku-ya. The shape has rounded curved tines that curl at the tips. ,This shape and tine-count make it ideal for whisking Usucha (Thin Matcha), but can also be used for Koicha (Thick Matcha). Hand-crafted of fine bamboo, the chasen is the natural tool for whisking the perfect bowl of matcha. The tines are hand-split and hand-braided to separate each tine. The chasen itself is a work of beauty and fine craftsmanship. Using the chasen kusenaoshi (available here at Charaku) will further prolong the life of the chasen.

Yamamoto Takezayikuya (Yamamoto Bamboo Craft Shop) is a well-known producer of bamboo crafts and traditional musical instruments, particularly instruments like bamboo flutes.  They also produce Japanese umbrellas and a small selection of tea utensils, mainly tea whisks.  Their chasen are designed to be durable and reliable, and they are quite affordable making them ideal for both beginners and more experience tea enthusiasts.  Although Yamamoto Takezayikuya also has a workshop in China where they produce tea whisks for casual use and tea school practice, these whisks that we are offering are noted by the company as made in Japan, and were purchased directly from Japan.
