Description

Cherry Bark Tea Scoop, Kabazaiku Chami, from Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture.    L. 2.75" (7cm).

Kakunodate is the center of Japanese Mountain Cherry Bark craft production, having begun in the late 1700's by samurai retainers looking for sources of additional income. Production has continued into what is now a prized regional craft specializing in items for tea and table.

Simplicity of design and natural materials typify the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. Scoops and spoons for portioning Japanese green tea should ideally be thin so as not to crush the leaves. L. 3" (7.5cm.)
