Description
The bamboo scoop is the traditional tool for portioning matcha in the tea bowl. Carved of natural materials; the characteristics of ergonomics, simplicity, and a rustic naturalness exemplify the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi.
Spring has finally arrived! In Japan, while cherry blossoms are capturing everyone's attention, the countdown to the new season's tea harvest has also begun. We'll be drunk with shincha tasting in a few months.
For now, we're happy to present a collection of pottery from Japan, much of it from the town of Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture. I lived there in 1999-2000, and made numerous trips back in the following few years.
The people and pottery of Mashiko definitely have a special place in my heart.
We hope that you will also enjoy the warmth of Mashiko-yaki.
P.S. We are ever thankful to those who participated in our January-March fundraiser for Wajima Earthquake Relief with purchases, donations, and healing prayers.
We can all use help, or give help, at some time in our lives.
